Land Treatment Myths vs Reality
Myth
Land treatment results in ugly pits and large mountains of muddy residue.
Reality
The pictures don’t lie! Treatment cells are not large ugly pits. Stockpile material supports vegetation, and it can be converted to road base and levee fill.
Myths
- Land treatment is risky because oil and salts can seep into the ground water.
- Land treatment is old technology. Chemical treatment is better.
- Stockpiles will have to be remediated someday by someone with deep pockets.
Reality
Frequent independent tests confirm water and soil are not adversely impacted.
R3 technology and programs are significantly improving E&P waste management. New patent-pending water segregation and active evaporation technologies are improving land treatment efficiency and the use of land and water resources.
USLL is the only waste management firm working to minimize E&P operator liabilities through the beneficial reuse of clean stockpile material.
